Mayor Pavlov: Our goal is to make our hometown more comfortable and convenient for Kryvyi Rih residents, to accomplish this we bring in European and Ukrainian experts, representatives of science, local self-government and active city residents

With the support of Mayor Kostyantyn Pavlov, Kryvyi Rih hosted the International summer school of urban planning for two weeks. The mayor met with the students of the school, who presented their projects for the transformation of Kryvyi Rih as a currently single-industry city.

Speaking to the participants of the School of Urban Planning, Mayor Kostyantyn Pavlov said: Our goal is to make our home city more comfortable and convenient for Kryvyi Rih residents, so we bring together European and Ukrainian experts, representatives of science, local government and Kryvyi Rih residents. I am convinced that together and with the help of modern technologies, innovative approaches and European experience we will implement many useful projects. The city will use the results produced by the school of urban when planning the development of urban space," emphasized the mayor.

Together with representatives of the Hans Seidel Foundation (Germany) and the German Construction Industry Support Fund, students and teachers from Kryvyi Rih universities and students from universities in Kyiv, Lutsk and Rivne are working on the development of the future concept of integrated development of the city. More than 40 creative and promising young urban planners gathered in Kryvyi Rih.

"We are currently working on the urban planning part, conducting a comprehensive analysis of the city. We have studied the architecture of the city, the ecological condition, analyzed the state of affairs in the mining sector, determined the functional purpose of the territory. Now we are preparing presentation materials and a concept for the development of the city, which will help move and change the urban environment for the comfortable life of Kryvyi Rih residents," said Serhii Khaimek, a student at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. The participants of the school studied various aspects of the development of urban areas and offered their solutions for zoning in all areas of Kryvyi Rih, the organization of spaces in residential areas, highways, riverbanks, etc.

Toralf Weise, vice-president of the SFB Stiftung zur Frderung des Bauwesens, briefed the mayor on the development of the summer school and thanked him for the hospitality and good working environment. "Such schools of urban planning are very important for the development of Ukrainian cities and Kryvyi Rih city in particular. We continue the work done by the participants of the previous school, which took place last autmn. I am sure that by working together to design and improve the urban environment, we will increase the comfort of the residents," said Toralf Weise.

In Kryvyi Rih, within the framework of the Mayor Pavlovs program, a project of comprehensive improvement of the 4th Zarichnyi microdistrict is being implemented with the involvement of European experts, with the participation of the residents themselves and taking into account their wishes.

The International summer school of urban planning is supported by the Mayor of Kryvyi Rih K. Pavlov, the Hans Seidel Foundation (Germany) and the German Construction Industry Support Fund. Classes in July are the second stage of joint work of European experts, specialists of the executive committee of the Kryvyi Rih City Council and students of relevant programs of Ukrainian and foreign universities to develop a strategy for the development of the urban space of Kryvyi Rih. The first stage of joint work took place in autumn 2020.
